Being one of the most famous orchestras in China, The Symphony Orchestra of The China National Opera House has 59 years history. It is a comprehensive symphony orchestra proficient in performing not only symphony but also opera works.

 It provided audience hundreds of Chinese and western operas, such as Liu Hulan, Song of Grassland, Ayiguli, The 100th Bride, Marco Polo, Du Shiniang, Farewell My Concubine, Countryside Girl Teacher, The Love Story of Rawap and La Traviata, Rigoletto, Carmen, Turandot and so on. Besides opera productions, the Orchestra has also given symphonic concerts involving works by Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Brahms, Mahler, Debussy, Schostakovitch, Gershwin, Stravinsky and some Chinese composers.

The Symphony Orchestra attracts world-class artists to collaborate on its stage. In June 2001, the successful ‘Three World Famous Tenors’ Forbidden City Concert features its collaboration with Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo and Jose Carreras. During the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008, the Symphony Orchestra worked with renowned artists like Renée Fleming, Gheorghiu, Jo Sumi, Giordani, Licitra, Vargas, Dmitri Hvorostovsky on many excellent concerts, which made Beijing the focus of the artistic world.

 The Symphony Orchestra has toured the Soviet Union, Japan, USA, Finland, Egypt, Singapore, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, revealing its remarkable quality and mastery, consequently winning national and international fame.
