Born into a musical family, Yang Yang began learning the piano when he was very young. He entered the Central Conservatory Middle School at the age of 12 under the guidance of pianist and educator Li Qifang. He then studied conducting with the conductor Xu Xin and Professor Wu Lingfen. In 1996, he entered the Central Conservatory to study with the conductor Professor Yu Feng.
Being one of the most active young conductors in China, Yang Yang has cooperated with some of the world’s most renowned musicians, namely Sumi Jo, Sabine Meyer, Lynn Harrell, Augustin Dumay, Renaud Capuçon, Barry Douglas, Alban Gerhardt, Lang Lang, Kun Woo Paik and Cho-Liang Lin. He has worked with Guerzenich Orchestra, State Philharmonic Orchestra of Rhineland-Palatinate, the Orchestra Poitou-charentes, Orchestre Regional de Cannes, the Camerata Orchestra, the Orchestra of Colours, Inchon philharmonic orchestra, Orchestra of Macau, China Philharmonic Orchestra, China Youth Symphony, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, Shanghai Broadcasting Symphony Orchestra, Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra, Beijing Symphony Orchestra, Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra, Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, Central Ballet Symphony Orchestra, Central Opera House, Shanghai Opera House and China Opera and Dance Theatre.
In the First Beijing International Music Festival in 1998, Yang yang starting his conducting eareer. To date he has given performances in the Beijing International Music Festival every year since 1999. From 2000 until 2005, Yang Yang was Assistant Conductor for China Philharmonic Orchestra. In June of 2006, YangYang partcipated the conducting master class given by Maestro Myung Whun Chung in Korea. Now Yang Yang as Principal Conductor of The China philharmonic Orchestra, and Chief Conductor of Hang zhou philharmonic Orchestra.
In November of 2006, he won the 1st place for his outstanding performance at the Dimitris Mitropoulos International Competition for Orchestral Conducting in Greece.
